Former aide to New York governor charged with acting as Chinese government agent

Linda Sun, a 41-year-old former top aide to Kathy Hochul, and her husband Chris Hu, 40, have been charged with various crimes related to their alleged work on behalf of the Chinese government. According to the indictment, Sun acted as an undisclosed agent of the Chinese government and the Communist Party, engaging in numerous political activities, including blocking Taiwanese officials from meeting with officials in exchange for millions of dollars in transactions for Hu's business activities in China. The indictment also alleges that Sun and Hu laundered millions of dollars on behalf of China. Sun, who served over a decade in the state government under Hochul, was arrested along with her husband at their $3.5 million home on Long Island. Hu is charged with money laundering conspiracy, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and misuse of means of identification.
