Former PM Stubb wins Finland presidential election

Alexander Stubb, a center-right politician from the National Coalition Party, won the Finnish presidential election on Sunday, March 5, 2023. He received 51.6% of the votes in the final round against Independent Green candidate Pekka Haavisto, who obtained 48.4% of the support. Stubb will assume office on March 1 and become Finland's 13th president since 1917. The election gained international attention due to Finland's long border with Russia (830 miles) and its geopolitical significance in the shifting European and American alliances.
