Flood-Hit Brazil Braces for More Chaos Under Heavy Rain

The recent floods in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, have resulted in a death toll of 113 and over 125 people remain missing. The heavy rainfall has caused widespread destruction, with more than 92,000 homes damaged or destroyed, according to the National Confederation of Municipalities. Over 410,000 people have been forced to flee their homes, with the total number of displaced individuals now exceeding 537,000. Intense rain is expected to continue in parts of the state until Sunday, with some areas potentially receiving up to 150 mm of rainfall over that time period. Authorities warn that new rains are expected to be heaviest between Sunday and Monday, maintaining an emergency situation in the region.
