Polanski Defamation Trial
Filmmaker Roman Polanski Cleared of Defamation Charges by French Court
Roman Polanski, a 90-year-old filmmaker, has been involved in two separate cases of alleged sexual assault. In one case, Charlotte Lewis accused him of raping her when she was 16 years old in 1983. However, Polanski denied the allegations and called Lewis a liar in 2019.
In another case, Polanski is wanted in the United States for the rape of a 13-year-old girl in 1977. In March, he appeared in court in Paris, where he admitted to raping the girl, stating that it took her time to put a name on the incident when she was 16 years old.
It's worth noting that the recent verdict at the Paris criminal court did not address the rape allegations, but rather focused on a charge of defamation. The verdict is therefore unrelated to Polanski's rape accusations.
