Fethullah Gulen, US-based cleric once blamed for failed Turkey coup attempt, dies at 83

Fethullah Gulen, an 83-year-old US-based cleric, has passed away in the United States. He had been in self-imposed exile in the US since 1999. Gulen was initially an ally of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, but after going into exile, Erdogan's government accused him of being the mastermind behind a failed coup attempt in 2016. The coup attempt resulted in the deaths of over 250 people.
