Far-right activist Tommy Robinson jailed for 18 months for contempt of court

Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for contempt of court after admitting to breaching a High Court order 10 times. The order was made in 2021 after Robinson lost a libel suit filed by Jamal Hijazi, a Syrian refugee, who was subjected to harassment and defamation by Robinson. In 2018, footage emerged showing the 15-year-old Jamal Hijazi being taunted, grabbed by the throat, and pushed to the ground. Despite being barred from repeating false allegations, Robinson continued to do so, leading to the contempt of court charges. The judge described Robinson's breaches as "flagrant" and done in a "sophisticated" way to ensure maximum coverage.
