Famine Declared in Sudanese Refugee Camp in North Darfur Region

The United Nations' hunger monitoring system has confirmed that a famine is ongoing in the Zamzam camp in Sudan, where approximately 600,000 people are living in camps outside the capital city of Darfur. The famine is a result of the ongoing war in Sudan and restrictions on aid deliveries. The IPC (Integrated Food Security Phase) has determined that the area is in Phase 5, indicating that at least one in five people or households lack food.
