FIFA Officials Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini Acquitted in Corruption Case

Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini, former FIFA and UEFA officials, have been cleared of corruption charges for a second time. They were initially acquitted in 2016, but prosecutors appealed and the case was retried. This time, the Swiss appeals court, specifically the Extraordinary Appeals Chamber of the Swiss Criminal Court, has cleared them of fraud and other charges related to the mismanagement of FIFA funds, totaling over $2 million. The acquittal came despite prosecutors recommending suspended sentences of 20 months. The case has been ongoing for almost 10 years and a final appeal is still possible before the Swiss Federal Court.
