Screaming Mummy
Egyptian Mummy's Agonized Expression Suggests Possible Painful Death 3500 Years Ago
Scientists have used CT scans to virtually dissect a 3,500-year-old mummy known as the "Screaming Woman". The analysis suggests that her facial expression, characterized by a wide-open mouth, may indicate that she died in excruciating pain. However, the cause of death remains unclear. The woman was 48 years old at the time of her death, as determined by analysis of her pelvis joint. The mummy was discovered in 1935 in a tomb in Egypt, where archaeologists also found a burial chamber for Senmut's mother.
