Ecuador passes referendum to ban oil drilling in protected area of Amazon rainforest

Voters in Ecuador have passed a referendum to prohibit oil drilling in a protected area of the Amazon rainforest. Nearly 59% of voters rejected the oil drilling while 41% voted in favor. Yasuní National Park spans around 1 million hectares (2.5 million acres).
