EU Tightens Safety Rules for Online Retailer Shein
The European Union has added Chinese-founded fast-fashion company Shein to its list of "very large online platforms" (VLOP), which requires companies with over 45 million users to adhere to stricter regulations. As a result, Shein will join other prominent online platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube in being subject to the Digital Services Act (DSA). According to the company's statement, it has around 108 million monthly active users within the EU, making it eligible for the designation. From August onwards, Shein will be required to implement measures to protect consumers from purchasing unsafe or illegal goods, as outlined in the DSA.
