EU Commission proposes opening accession talks with Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina has been an official European Union membership candidate since 2022. The country is required to implement significant reforms before initiating accession negotiations with the EU. The EU's push for Bosnia's membership has been reinvigorated due to Russia's conflict with its neighbor. Bosnia is one of six Western Balkan countries, including Albania, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, and North Macedonia, that are in various stages of the EU accession process. The European Commission intends to recommend that the EU open accession talks with Bosnia. However, the memberships of these six nations have been stalled for years, and EU officials aim to draw them away from Russian influence.
