Dozens of Muslims killed in Burkina Faso mosque attack
On the same day, multiple attacks occurred in Burkina Faso targeting different religious groups. In one incident, a local resident reported to AFP news agency that dozens of Muslims, mostly men, were killed during an invasion by hundreds of armed militants at a mosque in Natiaboani. Another report from AFP mentioned that soldiers and members of the Volunteers for the Defence of the Fatherland (VDP) were also among the victims. Contrasting information was provided by local media, which described this attack as an invasion by hundreds of machine gun-wielding militants on motorbikes. Separately, at least 15 people were reportedly killed during an attack on a Catholic church. The identity and motive behind these attacks are not clear, but more than a third of Burkina Faso is currently under the control of Islamist insurgents.
