Danish Prime Minister urges Greenland to stay united
ai generated text
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is visiting Greenland alongside its newly elected leader, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, to reinforce their united stance against U.S. ambitions. Tensions between Denmark and the U.S. have risen since former President Trump expressed interest in acquiring Greenland. Meanwhile, the White House has started assessing the financial implications of annexation and providing services to Greenland’s 58,000 residents.
We are open to criticisms, but let me be completely honest, we do not appreciate the tone in which it's being delivered.
These are not random tourists. And you sense it is a signal. It is a charm offensive to pull Greenland towards the United States.
I have but one wish and that is to do all that I can to take care of this marvellous country and to support it at a difficult time.
It is clear that with the pressure put on Greenland by the Americans, in terms of sovereignty, borders and the future, we need to stay united.
We must not be forced into a power game that we ourselves have not chosen to be a part of.
We must not act out of fear. We must respond with peace, dignity and unity. And it is through these values that we must clearly and calmly show the American president that Greenland is ours.
Our message to Denmark is very simple. You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland. You have underinvested in the people of Greenland, and you have underinvested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass filled with incredible people.
President Trump is obsessed with Greenland — because of its national security importance.
This is the most brilliant naval strategy ever and is essential to protect the country forever. There will be a deal.
The President believes Greenland is a strategically important location, and is confident Greenlanders would be better served if protected by the United States from modern threats in the Arctic region.
President Trump is committed to establishing long-term peace at home and abroad.
One of the benefits they have in mind is re-creating the ethos of the American frontier. It's hard to quantify that in monetary terms.
But the more practical national security benefits include using Greenland as a staging ground to build icebreakers and project control over the Arctic, while of course acquiring more land and natural resources.
I think it's very, very important and it's very reassuring for Greenlanders to see a Danish head of government.
