Cyclone Chido Devastates Southern Africa: 34 Dead in Mozambique

Cyclone Chido has caused significant destruction and loss of life in Mozambique and the French overseas department of Mayotte. According to reports, at least 28 people have been killed in Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province, three in Nampula province, and three in Niassa province. In Mayotte, hundreds of people are feared dead and several are thought to be missing. The storm has destroyed thousands of homes and affected almost 175,000 people, with winds peaking at 160 mph and heavy rain causing widespread damage. The Comoros have declared a national week of mourning and authorities are bracing for potentially severe consequences, especially in shantytowns populated by Comoran nationals. The situation has been described as "heart-breaking" by the INGD.
