Congressman Henry Cuellar accused of accepting $600,000 in bribes from Azerbaijan

Henry Cuellar, a 68-year-old Democratic congressman representing Texas's border with Mexico since 2005, and his wife Imelda, 67, have been charged by the Department of Justice for accepting almost $600,000 in bribes from an Azeri-controlled energy company and a Mexican bank between 2014 and 2021. According to the federal indictment unsealed in Houston, Cuellar allegedly agreed to advance the interests of Azerbaijan in Congress in exchange for these bribes. The couple was taken into custody after surrendering to authorities.
