Cissy Houston, legendary singer and mother of Whitney Houston, dies at the age of 91

Cissy Houston, a member of the Sweet Inspirations and gospel group, passed away on Monday morning in her New Jersey home while under hospice care for Alzheimer's disease. Her daughter-in-law expressed pain and sadness over the loss, describing Houston as the "matriarch of our family". Born in 1933, Houston was part of a family of eight children and sang backup for various soul singers in the 1960s, including Doris Troy and Dee Dee Warwick.
