Chinese #MeToo Activist Sentenced to Five Years in Jail
Sophia Huang Xueqin, a labour activist, has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of "inciting subversion of state power". Her friend and fellow labour rights activist Wang Jianbing received a three-year and six-month sentence. According to reports, Huang intends to appeal the decision. The sentences took into account the time both individuals had already spent in detention prior to their convictions. Additionally, Huang was deprived of political rights for four years and fined $100,000 RMB (approximately £10,800).
