China accuses Germany of raising security risks with military ships in Taiwan Strait

China has accused Germany of heightening security risks in the Taiwan Strait after two German navy ships, Baden-Wuerttemberg and Frankfurt am Main, sailed through the sensitive waters. China views Taiwan as a renegade province and claims jurisdiction over the Taiwan Strait, while the US and Taiwan consider it an international waterway. China's military condemned the transit, calling it "public hyping", and warned that its troops in the area would "resolutely counter all threats and provocations". This was the first time in over two decades that Germany's navy had sailed through the Taiwan Strait.
