Canada Designates Iran's Revolutionary Guards as Terrorist Organization

The Government of Canada has listed Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, citing its ties to Hamas and Hezbollah. This move aims to counter terrorist financing and is expected to have implications for charitable organizations that maintain connections to the IRGC. The IRGC is a significant military, political, and economic force in Iran, with an estimated 190,000 active personnel. The designation may unfairly capture Iranians who fled the country and are now living in Canada. Ottawa has already listed the IRGC's overseas arm, the Quds Force, as a terrorist organization. Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc accused the Iranian regime of supporting terrorism, while Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly urged Canadians against traveling to Iran.
