British Billionaire Family Sentenced to Prison for Exploiting Domestic Workers

The Hinduja family, consisting of Prakash and Kamal, their son Ajay, and his wife Namrata, have been involved in a legal case regarding the exploitation and employment of their servants. A Swiss court found them guilty of exploitation and illegal employment, but acquitted them of the more serious charge of human trafficking. The four were sentenced to 4-1/2 years in prison, with lawyers representing the defendants planning to appeal the ruling. The case centered around the family's practice of bringing illiterate Indian servants to their luxurious villa in Geneva, where they were paid in Indian rupees and had limited access to their earnings. One servant was reportedly paid as little as £6.19 per day for up to 18 hours of work, seven days a week.
