Brazilian Women Protest Against Abortion Bill Tightening Ban

Thousands of people, including retirees and children, took to the streets in Sao Paulo on June 15 to protest a proposed law that would consider terminations of pregnancies over 22 weeks as homicides. The protesters chanted slogans such as "A child is not a mother" and "A rapist is not a father", highlighting their opposition to the legislation. According to critics, most women who seek abortions at this stage are survivors of child rape. Feminist groups have also spoken out against the proposed law, arguing that it would impose harsher penalties on women seeking reproductive healthcare.
