Bolivian President Denies Involvement in Failed Coup Attempt
Bolivian President Luis Arce has denied accusations that he was behind an attempted coup against his government, calling them "lies". According to reports, General Juan Jose Zuniga told police that Arce had authorized him to mobilize armored vehicles, but the president claims that the general acted on his own and will face justice. Arce stated that he is not a politician who seeks popularity through violence or bloodshed. Some Bolivians have speculated that the allegations could be a "self-coup" attempt by Zuniga to boost his own popularity. The Interior Minister, Eduardo del Castillo, has also commented on the situation, stating that Arce received reports of "destabilization attempts". However, it is unclear whether there are any discrepancies in the accounts provided by different officials, and further investigation may be necessary to clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged coup attempt.
I urge the authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into allegations of violence and reports of injuries.
I didn't escape, I stayed to defend democracy.
