Bird Flu Outbreak Claims Dozens of Captive Tigers in Vietnam Zoos
The H5N1 strain of bird flu was detected in two samples taken from a dead tiger at the Mango Garden Resort, which reported 20 tiger deaths after feeding them chicken. The outbreak also affected the Vuon Xoai Zoo near Ho Chi Minh City and the My Quynh safari park, where 37 tigers, three lions, and a panther died in August and September. However, no staff members in close contact with the animals showed respiratory symptoms.
