Biden signs debt ceiling deal into law

The Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 authorises the government to extend the so-called debt ceiling to renew borrowing. Republicans had refused to raise the country's borrowing limit unless Democrats agreed to cut spending. A default would have likely triggered market panic, huge job losses and a recession.
