Biden demands accountability from Israel over killing of American activist in West Bank
ai generated text
US President Biden condemned the killing of 26-year-old Turkish-US citizen Aysenur Eygi by an Israeli soldier during a protest in the occupied West Bank. Eygi was fatally shot in the head by Israeli soldiers who opened fire, with witnesses claiming she was not the target. The Israeli Defense Forces acknowledged the killing, stating it was "highly likely" their fire caused her death. Biden called the shooting "totally unacceptable" and demanded "full accountability" from Israel, urging the country to take steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
The IDF expresses its deepest regret over the death of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi.
There must be full accountability. And Israel must do more to ensure that incidents like this never happen again.
We will continue to press the government of Israel for answers and for continued access to the findings of the investigation so we can have confidence in the results.
We will continue to stay in close contact with Israeli and Palestinian authorities regarding the circumstances that led to Aysenur's death.
The violence in the West Bank has been going on for too long. Violent extremist Israeli settlers are uprooting Palestinians from their homes. Palestinian terrorists are sending car bombs to kill civilians. I will continue to support policies that hold all extremists — Israelis and Palestinians alike — accountable for stoking violence and serving as obstacles to peace.
The shooting that led to her death is totally unacceptable.
No-one, no-one, should be shot and killed for attending a protest.
The ISM entirely rejects this specious claim and continues to demand an independent investigation of the Israeli army's killing of our comrade Ayşenur Eygi.
This cannot be misconstrued as anything except a deliberate, targeted and precise attack by the military against an unarmed civilian.
