Biden and Harris Visit Areas Affected by Hurricane Helene in Southeastern United States
Hurricane Helene has caused significant damage and loss of life in the southeastern United States, with 166 reported deaths. The storm has left more than a million people without power, and hundreds are still missing. The states of North Carolina and South Carolina have been particularly hard hit, with nearly half of the deaths attributed to Helene occurring in North Carolina. US President Joe Biden has dispatched 1,000 active-duty soldiers to aid relief efforts and has traveled to the affected areas, including South Carolina and North Carolina, where he met with local officials and first responders. Vice President Kamala Harris has also joined Biden on his trip to the affected areas. The storm has been described as one of the deadliest in recent US history, with widespread flooding and destruction reported.

My top priority is to ensure the communities devastated by this hurricane get the help and support they need as quickly as possible.
These soldiers will speed up the delivery of life-saving supplies of food, water, and medicine to isolated communities in North Carolina.
My heart goes out to everyone who has experienced unthinkable loss.
We want as robust and aggressive a federal response as we can get to save as many lives as possible.
We're in the middle of what is a remarkably difficult and tragic unfolding in east Tennessee.
Congress has previously provided the funds it needs to respond, so we will make sure that those resources are appropriately allocated.
