Belarus President Lukashenko to Seek Re-election in Upcoming Vote

Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, has announced his intention to run in the presidential election scheduled for 2025. This will be the first nationwide poll since the controversial presidential election held in 2020. The president has been accused of orchestrating a crackdown on dissent following the election, resulting in the jailing of hundreds of opponents and the forced exile of thousands. Lukashenko has also accused the West of attempting to use the vote to undermine his government.
