Bangladesh and India Escalate Diplomatic Tensions Over Remarks Made by Ousted Prime Minister

A strong protest was lodged by Bangladesh with the Indian government due to Hasina's latest speech, which was deemed "false and fabricated" by Bangladesh. This development follows a wave of anger and protests in Bangladesh, which was triggered by Hasina's intention to appear in a Facebook broadcast from exile. The protests resulted in the vandalism of buildings and the museum and former home of Hasina's late father, Bangladesh's founding President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, being set on fire.
We have not got any response in this regard. Due to recent developments, Bangladesh has once again sent a protest note to India. Indian acting high commissioner was summoned and handed over the protest letter so that she (Sheikh Hasina) is prevented.
They are yet to have the strength to destroy the national flag, the constitution and the independence that we earned at the cost of lives of millions of martyrs with a bulldozer.
They can demolish a building, but not the history... but they must also remember that history takes its revenge.
While the Government of India will make efforts for a mutually beneficial relationship we expect that Bangladesh will reciprocate similarly without vitiating the atmosphere.
It is, however, regrettable that regular statements made by Bangladesh authorities continue to portray India negatively, holding us responsible for internal governance issues. These statements by Bangladesh are in fact responsible for the persistent negativity.
The Bangladesh Acting High Commissioner to India, Mr. Md. Nural Islam, was summoned by MEA to the South Block today, February 7, 2025, at 5:00 pm.
It was conveyed that India desires a positive, constructive and mutually beneficial relationship with Bangladesh, which has been reiterated several times in recent high-level meetings.
