Baltimore Bridge Collapse
Baltimore Bridge Collapse: 6 presumed dead, police say
A cargo ship named Dali collided with Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge early on Tuesday, resulting in the destruction of a significant portion of the bridge and disruption to international shipping and road transport in one of America's busiest port cities. The 300m-long vessel reduced the bridge to twisted metal, sending at least eight people into the Patapsco River. Two survivors were rescued, but six construction workers are believed to have been killed. The cause of the collision is under investigation, with some reports suggesting a possible power issue or design flaw may have contributed. This is not the first time a container ship has hit a major road bridge; a similar incident occurred in Guangzhou, China, just over a month ago. An inspection of the Dali last June identified an issue with its auxiliary machinery. The recovery effort will continue the following morning.
