Australian Prime Minister Condemns Vandalism of US Consulate with Pro-Palestine Graffiti
ai generated text
The Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has condemned an attack on the US consulate in Sydney, which occurred during a protest. The incident involved a person using a small sledgehammer to damage nine windows of the consulate and spray paint graffiti on the building's door. The graffiti featured two inverted red triangles, a symbol associated with Palestinian resistance.
And I just say, again, reiterate my call to turn the heat down and measures such as painting the US consulate do nothing to advance the cause of those who have committed what is, of course, a crime to damage property.
People are traumatized by what is going on in the Middle East, particularly those with relatives in either Israel or in the Palestinian occupied territories.
I would just say that people should have respectful political debate and discourse.
The Middle East conflict is a difficult issue. It is complex. It certainly needs some nuance and isn't a matter of just sloganeering.
This kind of behaviour will be investigated and punished by NSW police.
We can make our point in this country without resorting to violence or malicious behaviour.
It's an indication of a kind of coarsening of the public debate that no one needs in Australia.
