At least six killed in central Japan floods, landslides strike quake-stricken region
Heavy rain has caused widespread flooding and landslides in central Japan, resulting in at least six deaths and leaving at least 11 people missing. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued its highest emergency warning for Ishikawa prefecture, where the city of Wajima recorded over 540 millimeters of rain in 72 hours. The region is still recovering from a magnitude-7.5 earthquake that occurred on January 1, which toppled buildings, triggered landslides, and sparked a massive fire. One person was killed in the city of Suzu after their home was swallowed by a landslide, and another person went missing in the nearby town of Noto. Evacuations were ordered for over 100,000 people in western and southern Japan, although the warning was downgraded on Sunday and some people have started returning home. The floods have also inundated emergency housing built for those who had lost their homes due to the earlier earthquake.
This is heavy rain in the region that suffered massive damage by the Noto Peninsula earthquake. There must be many people who are very worried.
Heavy rain is hitting the region that had been badly damaged by the Noto earthquake, and I believe many people are feeling very uneasy.
I was talking to other residents of Wajima yesterday, and they said, 'it's so heart-breaking to live in this city'. I got teary when I heard that.
