At least 64 people killed in Papua New Guinea highlands tribal clash
There have been multiple reports of mass violence in Papua New Guinea's Enga Province in the highlands region. The exact number of deaths varies from at least 26 to potentially over 60, with most sources agreeing on a minimum of 53 men being killed. The victims were primarily tribal fighters involved in disputes between rival groups, some of whom used high-powered weapons such as AK47 and M4 rifles. The area has a history of tit-for-tat mass killings and an influx of illegal firearms has contributed to the cycle of violence. Some victims were reportedly left naked and dismembered by the roadside. Police are still recovering bodies and gunfights are ongoing in nearby valleys.
