At least 60 migrants reported dead based on survivor accounts of Mediterranean voyage from Libya
According to reports from SOS Mediterranee, at least 60 people are believed to have died during a migrant journey across the Mediterranean Sea. Two of the survivors were in critical condition and were evacuated by an Italian Coast Guard helicopter for treatment. An additional 23 survivors were found in serious condition, exhausted, dehydrated, and with burns from fuel on board the boat. SOS Mediterranee had previously rescued 224 people from different boats and was currently heading for port. Survivors reported that many people had perished and were now missing. The charity had collected over 200 people in need during this week alone, and the survivors had departed from Zawiya, Libya, seven days prior to being rescued.
