Asif Ali Zardari Elected Pakistan's President for Second Term
On March 9, 2023, Asif Ali Zardari was elected as the President of Pakistan for a second term. The election was marked by allegations of pre-poll rigging and vote tampering. In contrast to the presidency, which is largely ceremonial, Shehbaz Sharif from the PML-N party was sworn in as the prime minister. According to different reports, Zardari received 411 votes from national and provincial lawmakers during the election, while his opponent Mehmood Khan Achakzai obtained 181 votes.
