Israel-Palestine Conflict
Arab Leaders Endorse $53 Billion Plan to Rebuild Gaza as Alternative to Trump's Proposal
The international community is actively considering alternative solutions to the US-proposed plan to permanently remove two million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. Egypt has put forward a $53 billion plan, dubbed as a "phased reconstruction plan," to rebuild Gaza over the next five years. The plan would allow the Palestinian Authority to reassume control over the territory, with its security apparatus taking on governing responsibilities. Under this plan, the Palestinian population would not be forced to leave the territory. The Arab League has endorsed this Egyptian proposal as an alternative to the US plan, which has been criticized as endorsing ethnic cleansing. The Egyptian plan aims to keep Palestinians in Gaza while shutting Hamas out of any governing role. Israel has yet to comment on the plan, and its acceptance is uncertain.
