Alejandro Toledo sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for corruption and bribery

Alejandro Toledo, the 78-year-old former President of Peru, was found guilty of taking $35m in bribes from a Brazilian construction company, Odebrecht. The charges against him include collusion, money laundering, and accepting bribes in exchange for tenders to build two sections of an international highway. Toledo was sentenced to 20 years and six months in prison. The court found that he accepted bribes in exchange for a freeway construction contract. Toledo's conviction is the latest development in the Odebrecht corruption scandal, which has implicated several Latin American leaders.
