Al-Shabab attacks kill three UAE soldiers in Somalia
There have been conflicting reports regarding an attack that took place at the General Gordon military base in Mogadishu, Somalia. According to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Defense ministry, their personnel were training soldiers from the Somali Armed Forces when the incident occurred. The ministry reported that at least four Emirati soldiers and a Bahraini officer were killed in the attack (Reuters, 2023).
However, a Somali military source told AFP that the gunman was a member of the Somali army (AFP, 2023). Al-Shabaab, an extremist group based in Somalia, has also claimed responsibility for the attack and reported that at least five people were killed, including four Emirati troops and a Bahraini military officer (Al Jazeera, 2023). The number of casualties and the identity of the perpetrator remain unclear.
